Alba L. Potes

Founder and Artistic Director of Las Américas en Concierto

English/ Spanish

I will be dedicated to the composition of the opera Comala, based on the remarkable novel Pedro Páramo by the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo. I feel honored and extremely pleased to have as the writer of the libretto the acclaimed Colombian author William Ospina. The opera will be the extension of the cantata Pedro Páramo, that was commissioned and premiered on May 16, 2015 in NYC by Cantori New York with generous funding from the Roger Shapiro Fund for New Music.

Las Américas en Concierto (LAEC) presented its Fifth Annual Concert on May 30, 2017 at the Church of Saint Luke in the Fields in New York. The guest ensemble was the esteemed and brilliant Vox n Plux and friends for an evening of compelling music for voice and plucked instruments by composers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and the United States.

My composition Horizontes, tres cantos de cuna (Horizon, Three Lullabies for Everybody) based on texts written by Charles Ives and Augusta Ives, received its world premiere by Vox n Plux at the Fifth Annual Concert of LAEC.

Desde El Aire: Seis Instantes (From the Air: Six Instants) was performed by the wonderful pianist Ana Cervantes on June 26, 2017 at La Casa del Pozo en Guanajuato, México, on July 15, 2017 at the Sala Mazahua, Espacio Cultural, México and at the Museo Iconográfico del Quijote, Centro de Arte y Cultura, Guanajuato on July 6, 2017. Ana Cervantes will be performing this composition in New York City in September 2017.

Soliloquy for solo piano will be published by the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia in a collection of compositions written by outstanding students of the Music Department.

I am proud to announce the release of several CDs featuring some of my compositions.
